EX-PATS Goes Sailing in the Virgin Islands - Articles | Travel + Leisure

Jamison Witbeck is doing what he loves. In the third episode of EX-PATS, host Savannah Jane Buffet returns to the beautiful island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands for a sneak peek into the life of a wooden boat builder from Vermont who charters his hand-built 55-foot catamaran, KEKOA, for a living. And while he has what may be the Islands' first all-female sailing crew, it was the quality of family life on the island?safety, sense of community, nature?that truly inspired him, his wife, and three kids to leave their home in the States and make a go of it on St. John, where their first home was a tree house. "You really have to let go of all the little what-ifs, just go for it, and it all works out," says Jamison. "For me, this [life] is pretty much forever."
